Thoughts from the founder.

As a college-educated immigrant with a background in mathematics(biased towards management science), marketing, and project management who has had the opportunity to see the view from across the seas firsthand and the vicious cycle of poverty and inequality in places like Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and the UK, I did not choose the city of Paterson, NJ; it chose me.

I have seen governmental and extra-governmental interventions and programs that were well-intentioned but ultimately achieved nothing but deepening the divide between the haves and have-nots because they were simply not holistic enough to address the root causes of chronic poverty in certain communities and the blinding opulence it unintentionally foists on others(of course, they are not complaining).

Over the years, I have asked myself and others, how do business/financial affirmative actions help people who have undeveloped or, at best, underdeveloped intelligence potential with emotional quotients tending towards zero get out of poverty? How?

 

I have said consistently, for the last 20 years, whether it be in sub-Saharan Africa or Brooklyn, NY, anytime governmental geniuses introduce another empowerment program that doesn't factor in, upfront, the battered souls and crushed spirits of the so-called beneficiaries, they are just legally channelling the commonwealth to their friends and cronies in industrial power centres who are standing by to repossess what they believe to be their patrimony, that is being given out by the government. Though it is a small pilot engagement, It is our hope that our "PATERSON: The City Of God" project will serve as a prototype for a community-based approach to lifting whole groups out of chronic poverty, that actually works.
